Welcome to the web site of Studio Scanu, the yacht architecture firm that my husband and I
started in 1983 and that I am proud to manage, together with a talented handful of carefully
selected colleagues.
Good architecture speaks for itself, and it does not need me to bore you with chats about our
“philosophy” or our “aspirations” on how to “forge your life style”: after all there must be a reason
that over 50% of our work is done for repeat clients that come back for the second or third yacht.
Therefore we have attached to this web site a selection of achievements that we have
accomplished over the years, to allow you to judge by yourself on the quality of our work.
You will see that the works proposed differ very much one from another: motor yachts, planing
hulls, long range sailing cruisers, refits and reconstructions…
This is not usual in the yacht design business, and it is due to a combined number of factors that
characterize Studio Scanu:
- A first class background in naval architecture,
- An artistic and nautical culture,
- Direct experience in living on a yacht and sailing her across the oceans,
- And last but not least, the capability to listen to shipyard production managers and
foremen, to yacht owners, brokers, captains, engineers, cooks, stewardesses and to
anybody that can bring a contribution towards our continuous attempt of self improvement.
One final, important word: whether you decide to hire Studio Scanu to design you a yacht, or you
decide to work with equally excellent colleagues of ours (there are not many, but some of them
are indeed very good), just remember that, in a yacht project, the best energies spent, both in
terms of return on the investment and in terms of fun, are those energies addressed at designing
and planning the work before construction begins and remember that a well designed yacht,
attractive, sea kind, fuel efficient, easy to resell, does not cost any more to build than a yacht
that, due being badly designed, is ugly, un-seaworthy, uncomfortable, difficult
to maintain, to charter and ultimately to get rid of.

Examples of our work (...that actually float...):
Your yacht represents a substantial investment of capitals and it is understandable that you
want to make sure that your designer is capable of delivering not just pretty pictures but a yacht
that floats, does it upright and is capable of crossing oceans in safety.
Therefore we are enclosing here a selection of our yachts that can do this. (... Incidentally, all
our yachts, since 1983, are still afloat...).
